Facilities

The First Aid Room at the Faculty of Engineering was officially launched by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Ir. Dr. Nik Nazri Bin Nik Ghazali, on 29 May 2024. The facility is located on the first floor of Block L, adjacent to the Faculty of Engineering Gallery (Galeri FKUM). The establishment of the First Aid Room provides a dedicated space for staff and students who require immediate medical attention or temporary rest due to illness, injury, or discomfort while in faculty. To support basic emergency care, the room is equipped with two beds and essential first aid kits, ensuring prompt assistance can be provided when needed.

The Faculty of Engineering Library

The Faculty of Engineering Library is located on the sixth (6th) floor of the Laboratory Wing, Engineering Tower. It originally started as a reading room and was later upgraded in 1985 to become part of the Universiti Malaya Library system. Today, the Faculty of Engineering Library primarily supports the teaching, learning, and research needs of students, academic staff, and researchers from all departments within the Faculty of Engineering. The Library is also open to all registered users of Universiti Malaya Library, allowing members of the wider University community to access and benefit from its resources and services.

• Open Stack or General Collection

The Open Stack or General Collection consists mainly of textbooks and monographs covering various academic disciplines. Engineering students may borrow materials from this collection according to their borrowing eligibility. The collection supports students in obtaining recommended and supplementary reading materials for their courses. The Faculty of Engineering library has a general collection of more than 17,551 volumes placed on the open stacks. This collection consists mainly of textbooks, handbooks, manuals, and technical reports and other materials related to engineering and its associated disciplines. Most of the collections are available for borrowing subject to the Library’s borrowing terms and conditions. The materials are arranged alphabetically by the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LCC) which enables users to locate resources according to their respective subject areas.

Reference Collection

The Reference Collection provides materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, and research guides. For engineering students, reference materials such as technical handbooks and related sources can provide useful background and supporting information for coursework, projects, and research.

• Academic Reserve Collection

The Academic Reserve Collection consists of textbooks recommended by lecturers for their students. This collection provides students with access to selected materials that are directly relevant to their courses and academic requirements.

• Theses, Dissertations and Academic Exercises

The Library also maintains a collection of theses and dissertations, particularly postgraduate research produced at Universiti Malaya. These materials are useful references for students undertaking research, particularly for literature reviews, research methodology, and Final Year Projects. This collection of more than 12,195 volumes consists of work produced by students of the Faculty of Engineering, with academic exercises forming a significant part of the collection. These materials provide useful references to previous academic and research work undertaken within the Faculty and can support students in areas such as literature review, research methodology, project development, and identification of previous research topics. The collection is available for reference use only.

• Journal Collection

The journal collection provides access to scholarly publications across various subject areas. In addition to printed and bound journal issues, students have access to a much wider range of current scholarly literature through the Library's electronic resources.

• Standards Collection

The Faculty of Engineering Library maintains a specialised collection of more than 20,715 standards to support engineering education, technical reference, design activities, and research. A set of British Standards from British Standards Institution, selected Malaysian Standards from SIRIM (Standards & Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia), and a set of standards for the ASTM (American Standards for Testing Materials, 1995). The standards are arranged according to the standard index numbers given by issuing bodies such as the British Standards Institution or SIRIM. The physical Standards Collection is available for reference use only.

Reference and Research Support

Professional librarians provide reference and information assistance to help students identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use relevant information resources. Students may obtain guidance in searching library catalogues, electronic databases, and other scholarly information sources. 

The Library also provides information literacy and research support programs designed to develop students' skills in information searching and the effective use of academic resources. These services contribute to the development of independent learning and research competencies, which are essential for students throughout their academic sessions. Information Technology and Digital Access

Universiti Malaya Library network provides access to information and communication technology facilities that support students in accessing digital information resources and completing academic activities. Internet connectivity and access to the University's electronic resources enable students to retrieve scholarly information and utilize online learning resources. The Library's digital services further enhance accessibility by allowing students to discover and access information resources remotely, subject to the University's authentication and access requirements. This is particularly important in supporting flexible learning and providing continuous access to academic information resources.

• PENDETA OneSearch

Users can search for library resources through PENDETA OneSearch, which replaced the former PENDETA WebPAC (Public Access Catalogue). PENDETA OneSearch provides a single search platform for users to discover and access a wide range of resources, such as books, journal articles, databases, e-books, multimedia materials, and other scholarly resources. • Online Databases Electronic Resources

Universiti Malaya Library provides students and academic staff with access to a wide range of online databases and electronic resources to support teaching, learning, and research activities. These resources are accessible through the Library’s A–Z Online Databases platform, which serves as a central access point for subscribed and selected academic databases. The databases provide access to various types of scholarly and technical information, including journal articles, conference papers, e-books, standards, technical reports, and other academic resources relevant to engineering education and research.
